Spoon carving course with Bobby Spooner

A one day course in Spoon Carving - Lunch and drinks provided.

  • 90 British pounds
  • Holt Country Park

Service Description

This course is both for complete beginners and for those who have some previous experience of wood work and using hand tools. I will guide you through the process of making a cooking spoon from a log of green (fresh) native British hardwood. The wood will be sourced sustainably from a Norfolk woodland that I help to look after. You will learn about the properties of the wood, the cleaving (splitting) of the log, roughing out the basic shape using a carving axe, refining the shape using a variety of knife techniques and hollowing out the bowl of the spoon using a hook knife. By the end of the day, not only will you have learned a new skill but you will have your very own wooden spoon to take home! I will also guide you through some basic tool sharpening techniques and I will advise you on the best tools to buy if you wish to continue your green wood work adventure! I look forward to you joining us for a day of crafting in the woods! Suitable for ages 14+
